So, why do YOU like Mike Huckabee?!

OK, socks, I've been singing Mike Huckabee 's praises in this forum and elsewhere for quite some time.

So, now it's your turn to tell the world why YOU like the former Arkansas governor. Tell us why he should be the next President of the United States!

Chris Maiorana of LCM Strategies, a consulting firm helping the Huckabee campaign, is asking you blog-o-philes to email him a post on the topic "Why you like Governor Huckabee." The address is:

chris@lcmstrategies.com

The top 10 posts will appear on Huckabee's campaign blog during the week of 9/24 thru 9/30. And, Chris assures me they won't necessarily be the "best" posts, but ones that are "most unique." A focus on a particular issue (or issues) and a discussion of Huckabee 's position is welcome, as are video posts. But, try to be concise!

The deadline is tomorrow, 9/18/07. So, get cracking! (I've already sent off my submission!)

Oh, and even if my literary masterpiece isn't selected, you faithful socks may rest assured that it WILL still appear here in your beloved blogo-dryer.

Apparently, "values voters" REALLY like Mike Huckabee!

This declaration made based on straw poll results out of Fort Lauderdale this evening, where Mayor Jim Naugle welcomed the crowded Republican field to debate issues near and dear to the conservative wing of the party.

The stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts was NOT crowded, however.

The four "top tier" candidates (Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and Thompson) were no-shows.

And, Rudy really had no excuse for not being there, as he spent the entire day in Fort Lauderdale raising money and visiting roofing contractors.

I thought it was pretty funny how event organizers put empty podiums on the stage to highlight the absence of the missing quartet.

Pre-debate figures showed Huckabee had the largest contingent of supporters at 35%. But, a post-debate straw poll showed him with a substantial majority of 63%!!!

This just goes to show how well the governor connects with audiences, communicates his message.

For you number-crunching egg heads like me, here's the breakdown of how the straw poll numbers changed in response to the candidates' messages:

Mike Huckabee: 35% up to 63%
Ron Paul: 16% down to 13%
Fred Thompson (no-show): 15% down to 4%
Alan Keyes: 9% down to 7%
Sam Brownback: 8% down to 5%

I guess the debate just leaves two questions:

1. Why are the so-called "top tier" candidates ignoring . . . dare I say "snubbing?" . . . the conservative base of the Republican Party?

2. When will Senator Brownback realize he's been beaten, withdraw from the race, and allow Mike Huckabee become the undisputed champion of the values voters?!

MIKE HUCKABEE TRIUMPHS AT VALUES VOTER DEBATE
Former Arkansas Governor Wins with 63% of Vote

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was the clear winner of last night’s Values Voter Presidential Debate, winning with a sweeping 63% of the vote.

“We won huge,” said Huckabee after the votes were in. “I’m pleased, and proud, and honored to have this historic endorsement from America’s leading social conservatives who believe, as I do, in the core values which define American culture and life. This overwhelming vote affirms that conservatives are coalescing around one candidate and that candidate is me. Together, we will prevail.”

Huckabee came in a strong first place with 219 votes, garnering more votes than all of the other candidates’ votes combined. Ron Paul was a distant second-place, with 44 votes; Sam Brownback and Fred Thompson came in fourth and fifth, with 18 and 15 respectively.

The poll included 340 delegates who were hand-selected by 40 of America’s social activists and opinion-makers.

The debate, held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was organized by Phyllis Schlafly, Paul Weyrich, Don Wildmon, Matt Staver, Rick Scarborough, and Janet Folger.
