RIP Buddy Croft


I am sorry to report the passing of Claud W. "Buddy" Croft, who for many years has been an advisor to the Delta Mu of Beta Theta Pi at Texas Tech University.

He died today after suffering a massive heart attack in San Antonio.

Buddy graduated from Southern Methodist University back in 1960, and lived in Lubbock with his wife Margie.

He will be buried in Dallas on Wednesday, with a memorial service back in Lubbock on Saturday. Detailed information should be forthcoming soon.

I will always remember Brother Buddy for his friendship and fidelity he showed to the traditions of our fraternity, and offer sincere condolences to his wife and family.

CROFT,, CLAUD W. "BUDDY" Was born in Dallas, Texas, August 14, l938, to Dorothy and Claud Croft. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his mother Dorothy Walton Croft of Lubbock; Margie, his wife of 46 years; two daughters Carolyn Croft of San Antonio and Michelle Croft Gatewood of Oklahoma City; son-in-law Evan Gatewood of Oklahoma City; and grandchildren Blake, Bailey, Meg, Ty, MaryKate, Jet, and Emma of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his father Claud Croft of Dallas, Texas. Buddy graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in l956. He graduated from SMU with a bachelor of science in economics in 1960. He and Margie met at Southern Methodist University. He worked for Texaco for 10 years and later had a Swiss Colony Store at the South Plains Mall. He currently was a manufacturer's representative for McLendon Company Gourmet Center of Dallas. His grandchildren lovingly nicknamed him "Grumpy". He, however, was known for his sense of humor and the smile on his face. He never met a stranger and made people feel good. He also was an avid motorcyclist. He was well known for his ruler suspenders. He was a lifelong member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He served as the chapter secretary while at SMU. He was one of the founders of Texas Tech's chapter of Beta Theta Pi. He was Chapter Advisor to Tech's Delta Mu chapter. He served as a National Officer District Chief of Beta Theta Pi 1977-1985 and 1996-2003. Buddy was an active member of the First Baptist Church and was on the Baptism Committee. A viewing will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. A service will be held at 3 p.m. at the same location. A Loving Cup Ceremony by members of Beta Theta Pi will be held at the conclusion of the service in Dallas. Honorary pallbearers are members of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. A memorial service officiated by Rev Bobby Dagnel will be held Friday, November 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Main Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, 2201 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas, to be followed by a reception in the Parlor. Reverend Bobby Dagnel will officiate. A Loving Cup Ceremony also will be held by members of Beta Theta Pi at the conclusion of this memorial service in Lubbock. Honorary pallbearers are members of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. A memorial scholarship fund has been established through Beta Theta Pi fraternity in the name of C.W. "Buddy" Croft.
