Orange and Blue forever!

Well, ye socks, I guess I just became a Denver Broncos fan. At least they have the right team colors . . .

Still can't figure out why the Jacksonville Jaguars passed on drafting Tim Tebow. Instead, they used their 10th pick on Tyson Alualu out of California. Yeah, that's going to pack the stands . . .

I was half hoping #15 would end up in Minnesota, learning from Brett Favre and reconnecting with Percy Harvin. But, it became fairly obvious where he was going when the Tebow family was sporting Broncos hats well in advance of the team's 25th pick in the first round last night.

Somewhat ironically, Superman has the opportunity to show the Jags the error of their ways during his first game with the Broncos.

That's right, ye socks. Mark the calendar. Septhember 12th the Broncos will be playing the Jags in Jacksonville. Should be a good one.

Orange and Blue!

Theft in progress up in Minnesota

In case ye socks missed it on Election Day, there were other contests being held besides the coronation of The Disaster in Waiting.

One of the most critical of these was the re-election of Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota, who narrowly defeated "comedian" Al Franken at the polls.

I inserted those quotation marks, because I've never found Mr. Franken the least bit comedic.

Anyway, after losing at the polls, Mr. Franken launched into a full-blown hissy fit along with a multi-million dollar campaign to thwart the will of the voters of Minnesota.

He got the money to finance this miscarriage of liberty with contributions from the usual cast of thugs, including George Soros and ACORN.

Now, it appears all the teeth gnashing and hair pulling has convinced Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie (a fellow Democrat!!) to certify Franken the winner.

How could he do that?

Well, in his own words, Ritchie and his state canvassing board started off the process by explaining to the press they were "not going to be entirely consistent."

Indeed, they were anything but consistent as they arbitrarily deducted votes for Coleman from the Election Day tallies, piling them up in some dark corner somewhere . . . presumably only to be reviewed again if Coleman launches a legal fight of his own.

In the mean time, they went back and DOUBLE COUNTED votes for Franken in a select few precincts.

Even more outrageous, they tossed-out the votes of military personnel serving overseas who submitted absentee ballots.

It is a sad, sad day when the party in power will employ tactics like this to bully their way past the ballot box in an effort to tighten their grip on our government.

Veepstakes prediction: PAWLENTY

It's just a gut feeling, but I believe ye socks will be seeing lots of variations (and hopefully less blurry ones!) of this picture over the coming months and years.

The old guy in the foreground is, of course, the presumptive Republican (?!) nominee for president.

But, it's the guy in the background that I want you to notice. He's Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota.

And, I firmly believe he will be the next Vice President of the United States . . . or, at least, the GOP's next candidate for that office.

I say this based on the conventional wisdom that McCain's candidacy hinges on his running mate selection, probably more-so than any other candidate in recent memory.

There are several reasons, but especially these:
* He's old.
* He's failed (at least to date) to rally the conservative base behind his candidacy since the primaries ended.
* He's lacking in executive experience.

Picking Pawlenty would answer all these criticisms. He's young (for a politician of his caliber). He's a CONSISTENT conservative. And, he's done a great job picking-up the pieces up in Minnesota since Jesse "The Body" Ventura left the governor's mansion in St. Paul.

Add to that the fact that the GOP convention is being held up there this go-round, and you've got all the key ingredients.

Anyway, this theory is something I've been tossing around (off-line) for the last 3 or 4 months, to those who would listen. And, now I'm confident enough to post it here:

McCain will pick Pawlenty.

Florida Loves Huckabee!

That is according to the latest Rasmussen Poll which found GOP voters in the state support the following candidates in the 1/29/08 primary:

27% Huckabee (+18% since November's poll)
23% Romney (+4%)
19% Giuliani (-8%)
9% Thompson (-7%)
6% McCain (-4%)

So, what do these numbers tell us? Is McCain losing people to Romney? Is Huckabee drawing support away from everyone else? Who knows?

What the numbers do tell us is the momentum each candidate enjoys (or doesn't) in the Sunshine State. And, clearly, Mike Huckabee is outshining everyone else. Keep in mind, he was only registering 3% support down here as recently as September. So, for him to rise to the top of the pack in just three months is truly an amazing statement about his campaign. And, I'd like to think this little corner of the blogosphere contributed a little bit to the trajectory.

The other piece of news out of the Huckabee camp today was Ed Rollins is joining the team as National Director. Political junkies will remember that name as belonging to the man who orchestrated the most successful presidential campaign EVER back in 1984, when his strategies earned Ronald Reagan the electoral votes of 49 states. (Only his never-to-be-mentioned opponent's home state of Minnesota and the wayward District of Columbia fell to the Dems that year.)

Expect both the poll numbers and Ed Rollins to be discussed tonight when Huckabee and his buddy Chuck Norris appear on The O'Reilly Factor. (8pm on FoxNews, replayed at 11pm.)

Go, Mike, go!
