Ground Hog Day

Whenever yours truly sees this "holiday" pop up on ye olde calendar, thoughts turn to a handful of old movies rather than speculations as to the end of winter.

That's because the film "Ground Hog Day," starring Bill Murray, was one of the select few that seemed to fascinate my late father.

He could watch it over and over and over and over again . . . and, often did, much to the chagrin of the rest of our none-too-patient nuclear family.

The other "classics according to Dad" were, in no particular order: Evil Roy Slade, Continental Divide, and Forrest Gump.

It always struck me as odd that someone who tended to take him self way too seriously was attracted to such a ridiculous bunch of movies.

To each his own, I guess.

And, there's very little that's better for waiting-out winter than to curl up on an overstuffed couch and popping in a DVD. Might just do that tonight, as there's really nothing good on TV til NCIS comes on . . . .

Pass the popcorn!

Unplugged

Just got done watching my favorite Tuesday night show: NCIS.

The original series, not the new Los Angeles wannabe.

Anyway, this week's episode featured our favorite military crimefighters solving a case in the middle of a massive power outage.

It was kinda funny watching them have to adapt their gumshoe skills from internet technology and fancypants forensics to . . . well . . . gumshoes.

Anyway, got me to thinking just how reliant we've all become on technology to perform our day-to-day tasks.

Can you imagine going thru an entire day without blogging, surfing the net, blabbing on the cell phone, etc., etc.?!

Not an altogether bad thing to imagine.

But, let's keep that scenario in imagination-land.

Curse of photographic memory

My Tuesday night guilty pleasure is NCIS. There, I've admitted it.

Tonight, though, I found myself actually yelling at the TV screen.

One of the characters got a hold of a passport while collecting evidence at a crime scene, and looked at it briefly.

Later, said passport disappeared and the character in question went thru some pretty humorous brain picking because he couldn't remember the name on the passport or even the country that issued it.

So, there I was: "HIS NAME IS MILOS, AND HE'S FROM SERBIA!!"

I'm sure my neighbors must've thought I'd lost my mind . . . maybe, I have!

Oh, well, they caught the guy without my help anyway. Imagine that . . .
